6. What is the difference between a tourist visa and a work visa?
A Business (F) visa allows a foreigner to travel in China, but it does not permit a foreigner to work in China to some extend a non-native English speaker allowed by the school to teach. To obtain a work visa, a foreigner has to be sponsored by a Chinese college.  Our partner schools do this for all of its foreign teachers. This is standard practice in China and all applicants are processed by the People's Security Bureau.

7. Does Kathmandu Infosys help teachers acquire work visas?
If a foreign teacher comes to China with Tourist (L)  visa or Business (F) visa,  some schools can help them change the visa to work visa in the local city. Some cannot. The foreign teacher must go to Hong Kong to change it to work visa with the invitations organized by the school. Most likely  the foreign teacher will shoulder all the expenses but in some instances the schools help the teacher to defray such expenses.

11. Do the schools provide positions all year round?
Most teaching positions at universities start in September and some in February (the beginning of the spring semester, depending on when the Chinese New Year is). The schedule at private institutions is a little more flexible than that at state colleges and universities. Most of them accept teachers on a year round  basis.

12. What kind of positions can you recommend?
We can recommend English teachers who are interested in year-long positions, semester-long positions and short-term summer teaching positions. What makes our service different is that instead of waiting to be notified by colleges/universities and private institutions about their openings, we initiate contact with them on your behalf. Given enough time, we sometimes can even create a position for you. The earlier you apply, the better  the chance of an appointment.

19.What documents should a teacher bring to China?

It is necessary for each teacher to bring two copies of their university diploma, resume, teaching certificate, and 10 passport size photos to be submitted for the work visa and medical exam. Though not absolutely necessary, it is a good idea to bring along photos of friends and family, English magazines, and holiday paraphernalia, all of which make good teaching aids. A phrasebook and a guide book are not bad ideas either. As for clothing, one pair of formal shoes is recommended for special events, a jacket, some sweaters, and long underwear are a good idea. For rainy season, a waterproof jacket is mandatory.
